We updated this guide in September 2022 to ensure all products vetted by the Textiles Lab at the Good Housekeeping Institute were in stock and reflected current pricing.
Brand new kids' bedding can give a bed a refresh or change the look of the bed entirely with items such as sheets, comforters, pillow cases. There are many fun colors and prints to choose from that hopefully will get your child excited to jump into their new bed. Of course, there are material considerations as well. Good kids' bedding should look good, feel snuggly and cozy and should be durable enough to last until it's time for the next refresh.
That's where the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab comes in. Our experts have been testing hundreds of bedding products for over a decade, from crib sheets to kid's mattresses as well as finding the best bedding for adults and kids. We evaluate sheets for durability and performance. We also note the variety of colors and prints and options to buy pieces or sets so you'll be sure to find something you and your child love. Our picks below are kids' versions of top-tested items, recommendations based on our testing expertise, personal favorite places to buy or those that are highly rated and reviewed.

How we test the best kids' bedding
When we evaluate kids' sheets, we test factors such as fabric strength and pilling using industry-standard machines. We also assess the softness of each sheet as well as review feedback from a real consumer panel. We also look at construction and materials for other items such as comforters, shams and more. We recommend bedding sets based on our testing expertise and personal favorite places to buy. We will also look at kids' sheets that are highly rated and reviewed.
What to look for when shopping for the best kids' bedding sets
✔️ Material: Most kids' bedding comes in cotton, polyester or linen. Cotton is the traditional choice since it's soft and breathable, depending on how it's woven it can feel crisp (percale) or smooth (sateen). The downside to cotton is it can hold onto moisture so if your child is a heavy sweater you may want to consider another material. Polyester and microfiber may have more of a slick feel and the sheets may be thinner, which may or may not be preferable depending on the individual. While linen bedding for kids is less common, it's a great material for warmer climates since it's airy and breathable, but take note some linen can feel scratchy if it's not high quality.
✔️ What comes in a set: There are many bedding sets to choose from, keep in mind what comes in a set varies from everything you need such as pillowcases, sheet sets, comforters, etc. to just a few items in a set such as a blanket and sham, so be sure to choose the one that fits your needs. Also, if you only need a few items to complete an existing bed set you own, consider buying items individually.
✔️ Colors and prints: We love all the fun colors and prints available for kids' sheets and bedding, keep in mind that colors and prints that are seasonal may not be available later on if you need to replace an item so it's best to stock up ahead of time.
